The operator sets the parameters of the process by performing entries at an operator interface (2). The entries are received by a control device (5). The method comprises the steps of: receiving an entry by the control device (5), by means of which at least one first parameter (Pr, T, ZP) of the process is set; determining one value each for a variable (EV, WV, K) indicating an associated resource consumption by the control device (5) for a plurality of potential variants (V) of the process selected based on the entry and each differing from each other in the first parameter (Pr, T, ZP) and/or in at least one further parameter (Pr, T, ZP); and outputting each value of the variable (EV, WV, K) for the entire plurality of potential variants (V) by the control device (5), wherein the values are displayed by means of a display device (3) of the household appliance (1). The invention further relates to a household appliance (1) implemented for performing the method.
