[origin: WO2011006834A1] A media file that can be reproduced as a film is transmitted from a server to a client by the secure download of separate large file sections, the client transmitting information on the status of the reproduction of the film to the server. The server adaptively matches the data rate of transmission of the media file with the received reproduction status information. The method allows in various embodiments an improved utilization of capacities on the server side without impairing the reproduction on the client side by interruptions.
