The device i.e. washing machine (1), has a water container (4) fixedly arranged at a front-sided edge bar (10) of a drum (3) through a gap formed at a preset distance to the drum and to a housing (2) of the device. The edge bar defines a feed opening (5) of the drum. A collar (13) is arranged at a region between the drum and the housing. A height adjustment device (16) adjusts height of the drum relative to a position of the collar at specific operating state of the drum based on deflection of position of the drum from position at ground state of the drum. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a household appliance for maintaining laundry items.

Die Erfindung betrifft ein Hausgerät zur Pflege von Wäschestücken, mit einer Trommel (3) zur Aufnahme der Wäschestücke, die um eine horizontale Drehachse (A) drehbar gelagert ist, und einem Laugenbehälter (4), der an einem eine Beschickungsöffnung (5) der Trommel (3) begrenzenden frontseitigen Randsteg (10) der Trommel (3) durch einen Spalt beabstandet zur Trommel (3) und zu einem Gehäuse (2) des Hausgeräts (1) feststehend angeordnet ist, und einer im Bereich zwischen der Trommel (3) und dem Gehäuse (2) des Hausgeräts (1) angeordneten Manschette (13), wobei eine Höheneinstellvorrichtung (16) ausgebildet ist, mit welcher die Höhenlage der Trommel (3) relativ zur Position der Manschette (13) in einem spezifischen Betriebszustand der Trommel (3) abhängig von einem Abweichen der Position der Trommel (3) von einer Position in einem Grundzustand der Trommel (3) einstellbar ist. Die Erfindung betrifft auch ein Verfahren zum Betreiben einer Waschmaschine (1).
