[origin: EP2466144A1] The device (10) has compressor units (12.1, 12.2) arranged in compressor housings (14.1, 14.2), and a driving motor (30) arranged in a motor housing (32). Gas-dynamic barriers (GB1, GB2) are arranged in an area of a driving shaft (36) of the motor. The barriers inhibit the penetration of process gas into the motor housing, and comprise two chambers. One of the chambers pointing towards the compressor housings has pressure (P1) higher than pressure of another chamber pointing towards the motor housing, where the pressure of the latter chamber is smaller than pressure in the motor housing. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a device for compressing process gas.
