[origin: EP2468136A1] The appliance has a vertically adjustable base (2) including a thread shaft (4) immersed through a housing (18). A worm wheel (6) is rotatably mounted in the housing and stays in screw engagement with the thread shaft. A worm is rotatably mounted in the housing and engaged with the worm wheel. Contact elements (22) angularly project from the housing and form a housing fixed rotary protection for the thread shaft. The contact elements are designed as flaps, which are upwardly directed from the housing at a right angle. The housing is manufactured from a sheet with a thickness of 0.8 to 1.5 mm.
