[origin: WO2011023484A1] The invention relates to a device for optical distance measurement, particularly to a handheld electro-optical distance meter, comprising a transmitter (60) for emitting modulated optical radiation (78) along a transmission path (70) to a target object (14), and further comprising a receiver (62) spaced apart from the optical axis (72) of the transmitter (60) for receiving the optical radiation (80) returning from the target object (14). According to the invention, the transmission path (70) of the device has an adjustment unit (18) with at least one prism (22, 26, 30, 32). The invention further relates to a method for adjusting a handheld electro-optical distance meter, wherein at least one prism (22, 26, 30, 32) of an adjustment unit (18) of the device is rotated to adjust the transmission path (70) of the distance meter to the field of sight of a detector (64) on the receiver (62) of the device.
