[origin: EP2478970A1] The device has an elongate body (32) comprising a protective material application unit for applying a protective material (26) on an edge (12) of a composite part. A calibrating unit (28) is provided for calibrating the protective material with respect to its height after application of the material. A stop (30) is utilized to position the elongate body relative to the edge. The calibrating unit is provided with two smoothing plates that rest respectively against a right surface and a left surface.
