[origin: WO2011035826A1] The invention relates to a method for operating a fuel cell system (3.1, 3.2) for providing electrical power. The fuel cell system (3.1, 3.2) is switched off in the event of a fault by control electronics (5) that detect the fault. The fault that led to the switch-off is evaluated by the control electronics (5). The fuel cell system (3.1, 3.2) is automatically restarted by the control device (5) if the evaluation of the fault permits this.
