The former 3 is preferably generally rectangular in shape having a collar support 7 extending from one end, and the radiussed edges 8, 9 extending along its sides and optionally its other end 10. A shirt 2 is mounted to the former 3 by spreading out the buttoned shirt 2 face down, placing the former on the back of the shirt 2 with the collar support 7 inside the back of the collar, and folding the sleeves round the radiussed edges 8, 9. Each sleeve is doubled back over the former 3, and the tail of the shirt 2 is finally folded over the end 10 of the former 3 remote from the collar support 7 and retained to the back of the former by a retaining device 11, (50). The shirt 2 and former 3 are then placed in a protective container 4 for transport, located within the container 4 by cushioned blocks 20. The protective container 4 may be weatherproof, and may be adapted to be secured to a bicycle or placed in a backpack 5.
