[origin: WO2011041609A2] The present invention provides topical pharmaceutical compositions, methods for preparation, and methods of treatment comprising a selective COX-2 inhibitor useful for the treatment of pain, particularly pain associated with osteoarthritis. The compositions provide good permeability and bioavailability at the target site. In certain preferred embodiments, the invention provides a composition comprising etoricoxib, 2-amino-2-methylpropanol (AMP), a cellulosic thickening agent, and urea.
