[origin: WO2011042678A1] The invention relates to a device which comprises: a means (12) for emitting a laser beam, referred to as an emitted beam; a means (16) for focussing the emitted beam at a predetermined focal distance (D); a means (20) for receiving the emitted beam after being reflected by means of a particle in the air (18), referred to as a reflected beam; a means (32) for transmitting the signal of interference occurring between the emitted beam and the reflected beam to a signal-processing means (24) in order to deduce the speed of the particle therefrom. The emitting means (12) includes a laser diode and the receiving means (20) is combined with the laser diode by means of self-mixing. The focal distance (D) is between 5 cm and 2 m.
