[origin: WO2011045826A1] The device for creating temporary spaces where maintenance work can be executed in conditions of safety in the pit and/or in the overhead of elevator hoistway, comprises pivoting elements workable from outside the hoistway, that rotate a strongly built strut at about 90° around the vertical guide rail of the cabin or of the counterweight, maintaining the strut in a vertical position. The pivoting elements comprise two identical, substantially C-shaped, brackets, one above the other, each rigidly connected to a respective end of a tubular element. One end of the brackets so connected is hinged to a pin joined to the wall of a guide rail. The two sides of the brackets, opposite to the hinged sides, support small bored plates through which to pass the strut and ensure that it will remain vertical when loaded. A helical spring between the upper plate and the top of the strut maintains the strut raised above the ground, or separated from the upper wall of the overhead when not subjected to pressure. The length of the strut is such that, when resting on the ground or against the upper wall of the overhead when loaded, it stops the elevator at a distance of safety between the parts. Movement of the device between the inactive and active positions, and vice versa, may be obtained by both automatically and manually controlled systems.
