[origin: WO2011047841A1] In order to wrap stacked goods, in particular goods which are stacked on pallets, with a film, in particular with a protective film made from plastic, devices are known which have: a transport device (2) for transporting the goods through a stretched film curtain; at least one unrolling device (7, 8) for a film reel (9) on each side of the transport device (2), from which film reel (9) in each case one film is pulled off which extends perpendicularly with respect to the transport direction of the goods; a device for joining the film starts which are guided from both sides of the transport device to the centre; and a severing device for severing the film ends. According to the invention, a unit is arranged on each side of the device, which unit can be moved from the unrolling device (7, 8) to the centre and to which a holding device (13) for a film start and a welding device (11) are fastened, wherein the two holding devices (13) can be moved towards one another to such an extent that the two film starts overlap, and a severing device (12) for severing the films is arranged on at least one unit, the severing device severing the films optionally within the welded region produced by the welding device or outside the welded region.
