[origin: WO2011051596A1] The invention relates to partitioned image encoding (IE) including: selecting (C3) at least one encoding mode and the related encoding information thereof from among a plurality of encoding information placed in competition with each other; predicting (C4), by means of said selected encoding mode, the data from a common partition on the basis of at least one already encoded partition (PR1, PR2, ..., PRn); and determining (C5, C6) residual data by comparing data related to said common partition and said predicted partition. According to the invention, calculation (C7) of the value of a function representing said residual data is carried out before the transmission of a signal including at least said residual data and said related encoding information, said function depends on the number of values related to encoding information selected from among said related encoding information, then said calculated value is compared to a value selected as the competition index value from among said related values. If the values are equal, said transmitted signal includes said residual data and said related encoding information, except for the selected competition index value. If the values are not equal, the predetermined residual data is modified (C7a) such that the value of the function representing the residual data is equal to the selected competition index value, the transmitted signal including the modified residual data and the related encoding information, except for said selected competition index value.
