[origin: WO2011060886A2] The invention relates to a method for generating a representation (38, 56) of surroundings, in which a camera (4) captures at least one image (26, 58, 60) of the surroundings in a specific camera position. According to the invention, assuming that the surroundings have a known topography, the representation (38, 56) is generated from the shape of the topography, the camera position relative to the topography, and the image (26, 58, 60) in the form of a virtual representation (38, 56) from the view of an observation point (40, 42, 44) located at a distance from the camera position. It is thus possible to select an advantageous view of objects (28, 30, 62, 64, 66) represented in the image, thus allowing an operator to easily determine the position of said objects relative to the camera (4).
