[origin: EP2505087A1] The method involves supplying a cigarette paper and tobacco into a rod device (12), and connecting the paper and tobacco. A tobacco rod encased with the paper is formed, and a rod fettler is switched for interrupting the transport of the rod from the rod device to a device arranged downstream of the rod device. Discharged course material is collected, where the course material is actively sucked off by using suction air of the rod device over a pipeline (21). The collected and sucked course material is automatically or manually separated. An independent claim is also included for a rod device for manufacturing rods.
