[origin: EP2505316A2] The method involves coupling a battery pack (10) and a power connector (14) by a mechanical lock (13). The properties of battery pack are transmitted to motor controller (21) by a communication interface (24) which is operated by a user button (4) for activating a powered hand tool (1). The characteristics of the hand tool and battery pack are checked to set rate of acceleration of motor (7) as a function of the characteristics of the battery pack. The speed of the motor is adjusted corresponding to the rate of acceleration, when the button is pressed. An independent claim is included for powered hand tool.
