The internal combustion engine (1) has an intake duct (2), an exhaust gas duct (3), a regulating or control unit, a burner (6) and a fuel supply unit communicating with the burner. The fuel supply unit has a dosing valve, a sensor, a valve and a fuel filter, where a catalytic converter (7a) is provided. An independent claim is included for a method for operating an internal combustion engine.
