[origin: WO2011076559A1] A protective rail support comprises a clamping mechanism including a first elongate member (1) provided with first and second assemblies (3, 7; 11, 13). The first and second assemblies each include means (9, 21) for engaging with a separate support surface, which engaging means is laterally offset from an axis of the first elongate member. At least one of the first and second assemblies is adjustable in a direction parallel to the axial direction of the first elongate member for clamping the rail support to at least one of the surfaces. Rail support means (25) extends from the clamping mechanism for supporting at least one protective rail (33, 35). The rail support means (25) may be mounted on the clamping mechanism by way of a pivotal connection (27).
