[origin: EP2525331A1] A sorting unit (24) has a transport element (58) with receiving areas (56) for receiving a coin (12). The sorting unit has a sorting section extending in the direction (P2) of rotation. The transport element transports the coins such that edges of coins are placed on a bearing surface (66) of the guide unit (64), in the direction (P2) of rotation. The bearing surface has an opening (72) through which the coins are supplied with a receptacle (26). The guide unit has a closure element (74) that closes the opening and opens to move the coins through the opening.
