T) into the fibrous material suspension (2), wherein the intermediate conduit (8) includes two compensation regions (C.1, C.2) in which a compensating flow is possible transversely to the flow direction (R) and over the width (B) of the intermediate conduit (8), a sectional region (D) in which the means (9, 9.1) for metering fluid (10) are disposed in order also to section the flow transversely over the width (B) of the intermediate conduit (8), a turbulence generating means (11) disposed downstream, and a headbox nozzle (14) immediately adjoining the turbulence generating means (11). The headbox (1) according to the invention is characterised in that the overall compensation length (C. L) formed from the two compensation regions (C.1, C.2) and measured in the flow direction (R) has a value in the range of 30 to 1500 mm, preferably from 100 to 500 mm, in particular from 150 to 300 mm.
