A method for cleaning smooth surfaces (3), in which method an autonomous robot is moved on a smooth surface (3) which is to be cleaned, wherein water is applied by the robot to the smooth surface (3) which is to be cleaned and removed from said surface, is characterized in that the water is applied to the smooth surface (3) by means of a capillary effect.
