Abstract (en)

A method for managing issuance of a portable data carrier in a system 1 comprising multiple production equipment 16 for issuing portable data carriers 50, a data provisioning unit 12 and an assignment unit 10. The data provisioning unit 12 receives data for the portable data carrier in an equipment independent format. At least one production equipment 16 is assigned to use the data for issuing the portable data carrier in the assignment unit 10. The data are provided by the data provisioning unit 12 to the assigned production equipment 16A and the portable data carrier is issued in the assigned production equipment 16A. According to the present solution the data are provided by the data provisioning unit 12 to the assigned production equipment 16A in response to a data independent polling for data by the assigned production equipment 16A and in the equipment independent format. In the assigned production equipment 16A the provided data are converted from the equipment independent format into an equipment dependent format.
