[origin: WO2011124486A1] The invention relates to a tool unit of a rotary kneading machine (1), comprising a tool chamber (9) in which several shaping kneading tools for machining a tool (5) which can be introduced into the tool chamber (9) are provided, and a front covering (13) which can at least partially cover the tool chamber (9) on the end of the side of the tool chamber (14). Said front covering (13) can be used to change shaping kneading tools in at least one position in which the tool chamber (9) is released for removing or inserting shaping kneading tools on the end of the side of the tool chamber (14). The tools can be exchanged easily in such a manner that a front covering closing mechanism (20) is provided with an actuation device (26), which can lock the front covering (13) in a position in which said front covering (13) at least partially covers the tool chamber (9) on the end of the side of the tool chamber (14).
