Abstract (en)
[origin: WO2011124466A1] The present invention relates to a method and an apparatus for setting the position of the liquidus tip in a cast strand to the level of a predefined location within a strand guide of a continuous casting installation. The method provides the repeated giving of a pulse to the cast strand at a fixedly predefined location within the strand guide at respectively changed casting speeds. During the repetitions, a first casting speed V1 is detected, at which the pulse which is given to the cast strand does not trigger a reaction at the bath level. And a second casting speed V2 is detected which is greater than the first speed and at which the pulse which is given to the cast strand triggers the reaction at the bath level. The setting of the liquidus tip in the cast strand approximately to the level of the fixedly predefined location of the pulse giving then takes place by casting of the cast strand at a speed VS, for which it holds that: V1 is smaller than VS is smaller than or equal to V2.
