[origin: WO2011124518A1] The invention relates to an overcurrent switching device for an electric circuit to be monitored, comprising interruptor contacts (14) designed such that an interruption of the electric circuit is caused in response to exceeding a predetermined current threshold, wherein the interruptor contact means comprise an expansion unit (16) implemented by means of a magnetically operating shape memory alloy material and acted upon by a magnetic field (18) of a current flowing in the electric circuit. According to the invention, the expansion unit (16; 30; 32; 34) mechanically driving a contact, in particular an interruptor contact (14), is adjacent to a current-carrying, coil-free conductor segment (10) of the electric circuit for magnetically interacting, so that a current flow in the current-carrying conductor segment above the predetermined current threshold generates a magnetic field bringing about the expansion motion of the expansion unit for interrupting the electric circuit.
