[origin: WO2011141263A1] The invention relates to a domestic appliance (1) having a container (4, 11, 18, 22, 24) which, during operation of the domestic appliance, is subjected to moisture and tends to form a biofilm on one of the inner surfaces (29) thereof, and having a plasma generator (3), wherein the plasma generator (3) can generate a cold atmospheric pressure plasma and is arranged at a distance of less than 5 cm from an inner surface (29) of the container (4, 11, 18, 22, 24). The invention further relates to a method for operating said domestic appliance.
