[origin: EP2559814A1] A gravity foundation for an offshore structure, comprises: a lower portion 2 for submersion beneath water, the lower portion 2 including an inner compartment 32 and a plurality of outer compartments 34 arranged around the inner compartment 32; and a ballast water distribution system 44 for flooding the compartments 32,34 of the lower portion 2 with water during deployment of the foundation; wherein the ballast water distribution system 44 comprises: a first fluid connection 46 for introducing water into the inner compartment 32; and a plurality of second fluid connections 48 each for passage of water from the inner compartment 32 to an outer compartment 34; the second fluid connections 48 each including: an outlet 52 in an outer compartment 34, the outer compartment 34 being at a first side of the inner compartment 32; and an inlet 50 positioned within the inner compartment 32 at a higher level than the outlet 52 and at a second side of the inner compartment 32 generally opposite to the location of the outer compartment 34.
