[origin: EP2562117A1] The device (1) has a position determining unit for determining position of a lift cabin (5) in a lift shaft (4) and comprising a marking unit (13) i.e. adhesive band, for marking the position of the lift cabin in the lift shaft. A detection unit (14) e.g. optical sensor, is utilized for detecting and/or reading the marking unit. The marking unit is arranged at one of hatch doors (7a) or a cabin door (8a), and the detection unit is arranged at a cabin door or hatch doors.
