[origin: WO2011134526A1] The invention relates to a method (70, 100) and an apparatus (42) for discovering a node in a communications network (10). Embodiments of the invention disclose deploying (72, 102) a first crawler program (46, 48) in the network, the first crawler program encountering a first node (36, 40) of the network. Network management information is collected (78, 88, 104) from the first node using the first crawler program (46, 48). An identity of a second node (18, 20) in communication with the first node (36, 40) is determined (84, 106) from the network management information using the first crawler program (46, 48). The embodiments of the invention avoid or reduce the need for human operator involvement when the communications network (10) is configured for the first time, or when there has been a change in the communications network such as the addition of a new node.
