[origin: WO2011138407A1] The invention relates to an apparatus (10, 20) for temporarily storing at least one banknote transport container (14, 26, 30). The apparatus (10, 20) comprises at least one receiving compartment (12) for receiving the banknote transport container (14, 26, 30). The banknote transport container (14, 26, 30) in turn comprises an invalidating unit (34) for invalidating received banknotes and a control unit (36) which has a timer and triggers the invalidating unit (34) after a preset interval of time. A data transmission link can be established between a control unit of the apparatus (10, 20) and the control unit (36) of the banknote transport container (14, 26, 30) when the banknote transport container (14, 26, 30) has been received in the receiving compartment (12). Data for setting the timer of the control unit (36) can be transmitted via this data transmission link. The invention also relates to a banknote transport container (30) in which the control unit (36) triggers the invalidating unit (34) after a first preset interval of time in a first operating mode and triggers the invalidating unit after a second preset interval of time in a second operating mode. A memory area of a memory element (40) stores origin data with information relating to the last two apparatuses (10, 20, 22, 24) in which the banknote transport container (30) was last received. The control unit (36) sets the operating mode on the basis of these origin data.
