[origin: WO2011141036A1] The invention relates to a method for reprocessing steel scrap, wherein the steel scrap is preheated with the aid of exhaust gases arising in a melting furnace. In order to prevent dioxins, furans, or other problematic organic substances from forming in the exhaust gases during the preheating of the steel scrap, the steel scrap is pretreated before the preheating by introducing the steel scrap into an alkaline and/or acidic solution. At the same time, the components of the steel scrap responsible for the formation of dioxins and furans in the exhaust gas are removed.
