The flat knitting machine (10) comprises multiple thread control units (13) arranged above a needle bed for monitoring the knitting threads withdrawn from thread spools (14). The thread control units are arranged side by side in the needle bed longitudinal direction and are partially displaced from one another transverse to the needle bed longitudinal direction. The thread control units are mounted on one or multiple single or multi-piece carriers (12), which are arranged on each of two thread guides (15) or above multiple parallel thread guide rails (18) in a longitudinal displaceable manner.
