[origin: EP2571006A1] The monitoring system has multiple automatic identification system (AIS)-transmitting units and AIS receiving units that are arranged on the air liners (21,22). The transmitting and receiving units are arranged such that a portion of the AIS-radio signals emitted by the transmitting units of the shipping traffic are received by the receiving units on the air liner. The radio signals emitted by the transmitting unit on the air liner are received by a portion of the receiving units of the shipping traffic, when the airliners fly in an aviation area in the destination point direction. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for manufacturing a monitoring system; and (2) a method for monitoring the ships of shipping traffic.
