[origin: WO2011144710A1] The invention relates to a method for treating a floor area by means of a floor-treating device having a floor-treating unit and at least one detection unit, wherein the floor-treating device is moved over the floor area, the at least one detection unit is used to create images of the floor area at successive times, and the floor-treating device generates a map of the floor area using the images. In order to provide such a method in which a map of the floor area is generated, with relatively little outlay on apparatus and relatively little computational complexity, as a basis for the treatment thereof which is as extensive as possible, it is proposed that the images are examined by the floor-treating device in order to determine whether the floor area has a regularly repeating basic pattern, the floor-treating device identifies a floor area segment having the basic pattern as a floor area segment to be treated, and a region associated with this floor area segment is stored in the map for each floor area segment to be treated. The invention also relates to a floor-treating device for carrying out the method.
