[origin: WO2011151393A1] A contact element (1) is used for mechanically clamping an electric connection of a cable to the contact element (1). The cable (5) comprises stranded wires (51) and an insulation (50) that encases the stranded wires, said stranded wires (51) being exposed in a stranded wire section (51) and being encased by the insulation in an insulating section (50) that adjoins the stranded wire section (51). The contact element (1) comprises a receiving section (2) for receiving the cable (5) and a clamping lever (4) that is movably connected to the receiving section (2). The clamping lever (4) comprises a first clamping section (40) and a second clamping section (41). The first clamping section (40) comes to rest in a contacting region (23) of the receiving section (2), an electric contact being arranged between the stranded wire section (51) and the contact element (1) in said contacting region. The second clamping section (41) comes to rest in a clamping region (22) of the receiving section (2), the insulating section (50) being mechanically clamped in said clamping region.
