[origin: WO2012021912A1] Disclosed is an apparatus for carrying out laser spectroscopy, a sorting system having the apparatus, and a method for carrying out laser spectroscopy, in which at least one pulsed laser (2) is focused via at least one optical element (4) onto at least one ablation region (5) of a sample (6) for producing a plasma (7), the radiation (8) of the plasma (7) is detected and, on the basis of the radiation spectrum of the detected radiation (8), an elemental analysis is carried out. In order to provide advantageous conditions, it is proposed that the laser (2) produces plasma (7, 7', 7" and 7"') by focussing, via an optical element (4) configured as an axicon (11), on at least two ablation regions (5', 5", 5"') of the sample (6) located in the focus range (12) of the axicon (11).
