[origin: EP2580986A2] The compartment (1) has a lever mechanism (3) attached to a footrest (4) of the furniture for producing a mechanical connection between the footrest and the compartment such that the compartment is automatically opened from a flat resting position into an opened cuboid usage position (G) when the compartment is automatically folded in the resting position during folding of the footrest. A base (14) of the compartment is pivotably connected with side walls (18a, 18b) by a hinge (19), where the compartment is made of sheet metal, aluminum or plastic.
