The condenser clothes dryer (19) comprises a condensing unit for condensing out moist process air, and a collector tank for collecting at least condensate generated by the condensing unit, a delivery device for delivering the condensate from the collector tank to the condensate tank, a control unit for selectively opening and closing a connection of the condensate tank to at least one component of the condenser clothes dryer to be cleaned, and a catch element for collecting condensate overflowing from the condensate tank (1). The method is for operating a condenser clothes dryer (19), wherein the method comprises at least one step of intentionally allowing the condensate tank (1) to overflow.
