More specifically, the invention relates to a chain that has an exterior chain link comprising retaining means capable of retaining a first component (10) and a second component (10') in a position of assembly with freedom to pivot in which the first ends of an upstream journal (20a) and of a downstream journal (20b) are inserted respectively into the upstream bore and the downstream bore of the first component (10) and the second ends of the upstream journal (20a) and of the downstream journal (20b) are inserted respectively into the upstream bore and the downstream bore of the second component (10'), so that said upstream and downstream journals are held in position between the first component (10) and the second component (10') while remaining free to rotate in the upstream and downstream bores of the first and second components (10, 10').
