[origin: WO2009135235A2] The invention relates to a paper dispenser dispensing paper from a dispensing roll (10) lying in a lower dispensing position. Said paper dispenser comprises a guide path (6) leading from above to the dispensing position, in which guide path a blocking means (7) defines a hold position for a spare roll (20), a device for detecting the diameter of the dispensing roll (10) and a device for unblocking the blocking means for the spare roll (20) once the paper of the dispensing roll (10) is used up. The diameter of the dispensing roll (10) is detected by a sensor element (11) pressing against the peripheral surface of the dispensing roll (10), said sensor element being displaced by the spare roll (20) falling down and returning to its sensor position once the spare roll has fallen down.
