The physical variable and/or the number of executions of processes taking place in the battery cell is determined for a plurality of operating cycles, and the frequency (f) of the occurrence of defined values of the physical variable and/or the frequency (f) of the number of executions of at least one defined process is stored. The invention also relates to a battery, especially a lithium ion battery or a nickel - metal hydride battery, and to a motor vehicle comprising at least one battery according to the invention.
