The carrier (1) has a substrate comprising a paper layer, where two sides of the substrate are completely covered by a polymeric coating layer. The substrate and the polymeric coating layer are congruently arranged with each other, and comprise tactilely detectable embossed structures (2-4). The embossed structures are produced by the action of an embossing tool on the polymeric coating layer and the substrate, where height of the embossed structures ranges preferably between 80 microns and 280 microns. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing a data carrier for holding a value document such as bank note and badge.

Die Erfindung betrifft einen Datenträger, insbesondere Wertdokument, wie eine Banknote, Ausweiskarte und dergleichen, mit einem Substrat (7), das wenigstens eine Papierschicht aufweist und das beidseitig jeweils vollflächig von einer polymeren Deckschicht (9a, 9b) abgedeckt ist. Erfindungsgemäß ist vorgesehen, dass das Substrat (7) und die polymere Deckschicht (9a, 9b) im Wesentlichen deckungsgleich angeordnete, taktil erfassbare Prägestrukturen (2, 3, 4) aufweisen, die durch Einwirken eines Prägewerkzeugs (10) auf die polymere Deckschicht (9a, 9b) und das Substrat (7) erzeugt werden, und dass die Prägestrukturen eine Reliefhöhe von insgesamt 20 µm bis 400 µm aufweisen.
