[origin: WO2012025300A1] The invention relates to a method and device for thinly coating a component on all sides and to a component having a thin coating. In order to surround a component with a thin protective coating on all sides with less effort involved than in the case of painting and at a higher quality, according to the invention a single layer is applied to the component by casting in a casting mould, wherein during the casting process the material to be applied moves as a laminar flow in the region of the decorative element. For this purpose a casting mould (1) consisting of a lower and an upper part (2, 3) is provided, in which for introduction of the casting material into the casting mould (1) a runner (6) extends in the direction of the component (5, 14) to be coated from at least one sprue (4) in the upper part (3) to the side of the component (5, 14) to be coated, wherein a retaining groove (7) for distributing the casting material across the width is provided in the runner (6) in the vicinity of the component (5) to be coated, and wherein the runner (6) allows reduced passage (8) following the retaining groove (7).
