[origin: EP2610185A1] The labeling apparatus (1) has spreading units (6) provided with electric expansion segments which are moved from inner receiving position at which the sleeve-labels (3) are received, to outer clamping position for clamping the sleeve-labels. A control unit (8) controls the movement of the electric expansion segments to outer clamping position in response to a drive force or drive torque of the electric expansion segments. An independent claim is included for a method for labeling containers.
