[origin: WO2012032327A1] A flexible package (14) comprises one or more lengths of flexible material (16) arranged to define an internal cavity closed by means of seals (18, 22, 24) in which opposed regions of the material are bonded together. At least one seal (22) has a tab portions (30) in which the material is not bonded to an opposing region of material. The material (16) has directional tear characteristics and is oriented so as to tear preferentially in a direction orthogonal to the direction of said seal. The package is opened by pulling the tab portions (30) so that the material tears along either side of the tab portions in the manner of a tear strip. The material ( 16) may consist exclusively of a single layer of monoaxially oriented polypropylene film. The tab portions (30) may be formed in an end seal (22) so that material tears in a longitudinal direction of the package. The package may be a flow wrapped package.
