[origin: WO2012035250A1] The invention relates to a method for treating cells with a view to cryopreserving said cells, characterised in that said method includes the following steps: adding at least one saturated oxygen carrier to said cells prior to freezing and after thawing, said oxygen carrier including human or animal haemoglobin and/or a human or animal haemoglobin substitute; adding a combination of cryoprotectants having high and low molecular weights to said cells, reducing the formation of ice crystals in the extra- and intracellular compartments; and adding at least one gel of plant origin to said cells in order to protect the cells during the freezing and thawing phases, said gel of plant origin including agarose and/or alginate. The invention also relates to a method for the cryopreservation of cells implementing such a treatment method.
