[origin: WO2012035165A1] A dynamic ion trap comprises a chamber that includes a series of electrodes partitioning the chamber into a succession of sections, each section being fluidly connected to its nearest neighbour sections, and a control unit operatively connected to the electrodes to locally create an electric field across at least two neighbouring sections and to displace the electric field in a stepped manner along the succession of sections.
