[origin: EP2617868A1] Thermal spraying comprises introducing spray particles of a powder spray material into a hot carrier gas stream, heating by the hot carrier gas stream, and spraying on a surface of a substrate through a spray nozzle (10). The temperature of the sprayed particles falls below the melting temperature of the spray material, during the impact on the substrate. The spray particles are heated in the hot carrier gas stream prior to a nozzle neck (14) at a temperature causing at least partial melting of the spray particles. An independent claim is also included for an apparatus (1) for carrying out the above method, comprising a device to introduce the spray particles of the powder spray material into the hot carrier gas stream, for heating by the hot carrier gas stream, and to spray using a spray nozzle on the surface of the substrate.
