[origin: WO2012038626A1] The invention relates to a mail-sorting method in which pieces of mail undergo at least two machine sorting passes in order to be placed in order at the sorting outputs of the machine, and user processing information (PF) relating to at least one piece of mail is available in the machine during a first sorting pass, said method being characterized in that it includes the steps of associating, in a memory, said user processing information with a graphical signature of the piece of mail which is representative of an image of the piece of mail, and, during a second machine sorting pass of said piece of mail, retrieving (32, 33) said user processing information associated therewith by matching graphical signatures according to a certain resemblance criterion.
